Hardiplank Siding & Roof Replacement

What We Did

  • James Hardie® pre-primed cedar mill siding
  • Cellular PVC trim
  • Cultured Stone
  • Exterior Painting: Sherwin Williams®
  • Roofing: CertainTeed® 30-year 3-tab algae-resistant shingles

This home in North Andover, Massachusetts was ready for a remodel makeover when we first saw it in 2006. The wood siding was original to the house, and was no longer holding paint. The roof’s life had run its course. And, although this home had plenty of character already, the homeowner was looking for a little something more. They knew that a project like this would require an experienced, professional roofer and siding contractor to get the job done right and they did not want to have to manage multiple contractors themselves. We were ready to take this job on, and exceed the homeowner’s expectations. In the end, we did just that-read on, and see if you agree.

First things first-the roof. This roof needed to be replaced, and fast! As a roofing contractor, this roof was fairly straightforward for us. We stripped the one layer of asphalt shingles that had been on the roof, and replaced some rotted sheathing. We re-shingled the roof with CertainTeed® 30 year 3-tab algae resistant shingles. Customer Comment “Excellent work on roof. Fast, neat, hardworking crew.”

After finishing up the roof, we moved on to replacing the siding. The cedar siding on the house was the original siding. It was rotted and no longer holding paint. It was time to find a long lasting solution. The homeowner appreciated that we are a siding contractor with multiple siding options.

The homeowner decided to use James Hardie® fiber cement siding. We stripped all of the old siding, and used Tyvek® wrap to protect their home from the elements. We then installed the pre-primed cedar mill James Hardie® siding. We also replaced the trim boards, fascia, and soffits with Azek TrimBoards®.

After all the installation was complete, we finished by painting the house. We used Sherwin-Williams® Duration Brand paint to give the longest lasting protection. Our painters specialize in finishing fiber cement siding.

To finish this home's transformation, we installed cultured stone on the homeowner's farmer's porch. They chose the Old Country Fieldstone style to give it that classic country look.

Vinyl Siding Shingles Installation

What We Did

  • Vinyl Siding (Shingles): Norandex® Home Accents
  • Window: Simonton Generations®
  • Seamless Aluminum Gutters

This homeowner in Holliston, MA had 18 year old cedar clapboard siding. The siding was buckling, nails were beginning to come out, and bees' nests were forming underneath the clapboards. The wood had completely dried up and was now rotting. They were looking for a local siding contractor that could give them a low maintenance siding product.

They were having moisture problems from poorly installed flashing, and the siding wasn't holding paint. It even had a worn look to it that power-washing wouldn't help.

The homeowner wanted siding that would be low maintenance and hassle free. They decided to go with Norandex Home Accents® Shingle Siding. Certainteed cedar impressions vinyl shingles is a similar product, but the Home Accents was preferred in this case. Norandex Home Accents® is a premium vinyl siding with Colorhold® technology for excellent fade resistance.

This low maintenance product will just need a quick wash from time to time to keep the house looking young and fresh for decades to come.

Also, while we were there, we replaced a kitchen window that was drafty and wouldn't open properly with a Simonton Generations® Gliding window. We also installed new seamless aluminum gutters for proper drainage.

Insulated Vinyl Siding & New Windows

What We Did

  • Vinyl siding: Norandex Reynolds® Generations
  • Windows & Doors: Simonton® Generations
  • Carpentry Work
  • Seamless Gutters
  • Painting & Staining: Sherwin Williams®

This project was for a past customer of ours who used us to paint the exterior of their other home in 2001. When they moved into this new home in Roslindale, MA, they knew that there would be a lot of exterior work so they called us. They already knew we were qualified painters, and wanted to see how we faired as siding and window contractors.

First we started with the prep work for siding, windows, and doors. We stripped all old cedar shingles off, took out five old windows, and three storm doors. Then we applied Tyvek® wrap and fixed some rotted areas on the home. After that, we installed window and door trim, flashing, and PVC coated water table around the base of the house.

Then we installed Norandex Reynolds® Generations insulation-backed vinyl siding on the entire house. Next, we incorporated insulated vinyl corner posts with built in J-channel. PVC coated aluminum and custom window and door wraps.

After that we installed some Simonton® Generations replacement windows and storm doors in the home, including one slider-double pane, two low-e argon picture windows, two low-e argon double hung windows, and 3 vinyl full-lite storm doors.

The second major area of focus was the gutters and decking on the back and front porch. We installed all new seamless gutters. We rebuilt the stairs and landing for the back area. Then we installed new railings and new spindles for a fresh new look. For the front porch we removed the existing front screen and glass, and the old hand rails. We installed "Elk Railing" "Traditional Series" across the front. We also added PVC coated cladding to the porch beam.

The final step of the project was the painting and staining. Our professional installers applied Sherwin Williams® solid stain to the front porch floor, steps, ceiling and risers for a flawless new look. Then we painted the upstairs porch railings, spindles and other decorative areas on the house with Sherwin Williams® acrylic latex paint with a satin finish.

Here's what the finished job looks like. What a transformation. There's a lot to coordinate in a project of this magnitude, but in the end the house looks great!

  • Painting & Staining: Sherwin Williams®

This customer was looking for a siding installer who could replace their stucco and aluminum siding because it was old, outdated and falling apart. Here you can see what the house looked like before.

We began this project by stripping all of the aluminum siding and wrapped it with Tyvek® house wrap to protect it from water damage and rot.

After prepping the home, we installed new James Hardie® fiber cement clapboards at 4" exposures. We also installed James Hardie® fiber cement shingles at 7" on rounded turret in the front of the house. Then we installed all new PVC trim to all rakes fascias, soffits watertable, and window frames.

You can see in this picture that the porch was literally falling apart, so we constructed a new front porch with a new column and railings. The flooring was made from Brazilian hardwood and the railings where made from cedar.

Then we painted the home with Sherwin Williams paint®. The customers were very pleased that they chose us as their Hardie® siding installer and I'm sure you can see why. They also appreciated that our painters specialize in coating fiber cement siding.

  • Sherwin Williams® paint

This customer contacted us because the masonite siding they had on their house was not holding paint and they were looking for a wood siding contractor to install new cedar clapboards.

We began this project by stripping existing siding and wrapping the house in Tyvek® house wrap.

After wrapping the home and properly prepping it we installed the new siding. The customer chose pre-primed red cedar clapboards to replace the masonite siding. As a siding contractor in Massachusetts we need to offer many siding options that fit into different neighborhoods.

HardiePlank® Fiber Cement Siding

What We Did

  • James Hardie® Fiber cement siding
  • Tyvek® House wrap
  • Sherwin Williams paint

This customer contacted us because the paint on the back of their house was no longer holding to the siding. Even the best painter couldn't solve this problem.

Because the siding on the rest of the home was in good shape, they decided it would make more sense just to replace the siding on the back of the house. As siding contractors in massachusetts we have to be flexible with the siding options we offer our customers. Different sidings are suitable for different towns and neighborhoods.

We began this project by removing the existing siding from the back of the house. Then we installed Tyvek® HomeWrap paper to protect the home from the rain and snow.

Then we installed new James Hardie Hardiplank pre-primed fiber cement siding in the Cedarmill style.

After installing the new siding, we painted in with Sherwin Williams® paint. It's nice to be able to offer customers siding and painting so they don't have to hire another painter.

What We Did

  • Norandex Reynolds® Great Barrier Vinyl Siding
  • Anderson® 400 windows
  • CertainTeed® Woodscape 30 yr Architectural shingles in Pewterwood

They were also looking for a solution for the paint that was peeling on two sides of the house. Because we are painters and siding installers we were able to discuss the options with them. After researching the fiber cement siding, they decided that replacing the two sides was their best option.

We began this project by stripping the stubborn cedar shingles on the right and left side of the home. Then we wrapped the exposed areas with Tyvek® house wrap to protect the home from moisture damage and rot.

Then we removed 19 windows around the home and replaced them with Simonton Generations® white double hung replacement windows with grids.
