What We Did
- Removed all old roofing materials
- Installed 6ft of Certainteed Winterguard®
- Covered the roof decking with Certainteed Roofer's Select® felt paper
- Installed Certainteed Landmark® 30-yr architectural shingles
This customer had used us in the past and it was time to get one of his investment properties in the market. He knew that the roof didn't look great and, even though it wasn't leaking, a new roof with architectural shingles would help sell the property that much faster.
Our roofers started by removing all the old 3-tab shingles, flashings and backing paper from the roof. There was an old analog antenna on the roof that this customer had no use for, so our roofers removed that as well.
Next we conducted a thorough inspection of the wood on the roof deck, and as it looked great, the roofers installed CertainTeed Winterguard® Ice-and-Water Shield around the roof edges and 6 feet up from the gutters. Then our roofers covered the rest of the wood deck with CertainTeed Roofer's Select® High Performance Felt Underlayment. After that, it was time to cover the roof with the new shingles.
This house had no upper ventilation system, so on the ridge, we made sure the decking was properly vented by installing Shingle Vent II® ridge vent, made by AirVent®.
By observing the required and recommended installation procedures by the manufacturer, we as a local roofing company are able to offer an exceptional warranty to our customers. The warranties vary from 20 to 50 years of non-prorated coverage, depending on the type of shingle they choose, 30-yr architectural, or premium lifetime shingles, with many different designs.
Overall, this customer was very happy with the new roof on his property. We replaced the roof in one good, dry day in snowy January and the person who makes this their own home will have true peace-of-mind about the roof above it!

What We Did
- Removed the roof and the left side the roof decking
- Sistered the rafters
- Releaded the chimney base
- Install new sheathing on the left side of the roof
- Installed new roofing and underlayment
- Installed new gutters
This house was built in 1914 and it had some structural issues with the roof among other things. From the exterior it dipped in the middle, so there was an obvious problem. The customer wanted to find a company to handle the structural part of the roofing project and take care of the roof, so he chose us.
First, we stripped the left side of the roof; the shingles, flashings, backing paper, and decking. Our guys had the house open to the attic, so we had to be very conscientious of the weather.
The rafters were 24 on center, which does not exactly pass code now, so we had to fix it. We did this by sistering what was there and installed new rafters, so it was more like 16 on center, or 16 inches from one rafter to the next one. This was a good foundation to support the roof. At this time, the flashings on the chimney were grinded out, so we could replace it.
Next, we installed all new sheathing on the left side of the roof and covered it quickly with the roofing materials. We used 8 inch flashing, 6 feet of ice and water shield (Certainteed's Winterguard), and 30 lb. felt paper (Roofer's Select) for the underlayment. For roofing shingles we used Landmark Premium shingles in a Harvard Slate color. These carry a 50 year warrantee because they are very thick and durable. The customer had no ventilation at all, and no soffits on the house. With no soffit, it makes it hard to get lower ventilation, but we solved the problem with the Edge Vent system. The Edge Vent allows air to go into the attic from the lower part of the roof. It works great in combination with a ridge vent, which we also installed on the top of the roof. We used the ShingleVent II® by AIRVENT for this.
The last part of the project was to replace all the gutters. We used white, seamless aluminum gutters and downspouts. There were a few angles on the house, which made things tricky, but we were able to get the water flowing in a good direction for the house. Overall the customer was very pleased with the outcome of his project. He commented on how straight the roof line was after we supported it properly. He has recommended us for other projects to his friends because he thought our overall service was professional and we got the job done properly.

What We Did
- Replaced the existing roofing, flashings and underlayment
- Removal and replacement of 9 skylights
- Framing for 2 Velux skylights
- Releading of the chimney base
This 1984 house in Rowley, MA has many leaks around the skylights. The customers knew they needed to change out the skylights and the roof to insure there house was well protected from any further water damage. This was a more difficult project than usual because there were many skylights that needed to be replaced and some framing that needed to be done. We made a double skylight into a single because of sizing limitations from Velux, the manufacturer. We finished off the interior and the customer was very pleased with the outcome.
We removed all of the existing shingles, flashings and backing paper from the original roof that was put up when the house was built in 1984. The roof was over 30 squares (3000 square feet), so it filled the dumpster easily.
After replacing the skylights, we releaded the massive chimney base on the right side of the house. This chimney was in bad shape because it was actually made from paver stones, which are normally used for driveways. This is not the best material for a chimney, but we made sure it was sealed properly from any roof water issues.
Next we installed 6 feet of Certainteed® Winterguard ice and water shield from all the edges and in all the valleys. Also, we put this ice and water barrier around all the skylights to insure protection from the water. We then installed an 8 inch drip edge around all of the edges of the house for further protection from water. This was followed by the installation of Certainteed's Roofers Select, their 30lb. felt underlayment used as a secondary barrier from leaks.
Finally, the shingles were installed on the home. The customer chose Certainteed® Landmark Premium Shingles, which carry a lifetime warranty through the manufacturer. They choose a new color, which was Landmark Premium's Max Def Burnt Sienna, which complemented there brownish, red house nicely.
Overall these customers were extremely happy with the way the project turned out. It was completed within one week of working days and with the quality they expected. They interviewed many contractors and roofers in Rowley and the surrounding area and chose us because they thought they would get the best installation and service and we did not disappoint them.

What We Did
What we did:
- Removed all the existing roofing, flashings and backing paper
- Releading of the chimney base
- Installed new roofing shingles, flashings and underlayments
- Replaced the wood shingles on the sides of the dormers
- Replaced the gutters
- Painted the whole Exterior
In this house that was built in 1965 we had a few items of maintenance to take care of. First, we replaced the roof that had not been done in about 20 years. It is a cape house that has an addition and garage attached to the back, so there was a lot of square footage of roofing to do.
The roof was replaced with a shingle called Certainteed Landmark 30 year. It was a slate blend color which has some red granules to match the red house.
Next, we addressed some rot issues on the roof line. Cape houses often have a dormer like this one on the back of the house and a catwalk. This is an area (usually a few feet wide), where the dormer if projected from. It is also a great place for water and snow to gravitate towards, thus creating water damage to the siding over time.
They had rotted wood shingles on the sides of the dormers, so we replaced them with a low maintenance material called James Hardie Fiber Cement shingles. It looks like wood and matches the rest of the house, but it is made up of Portland cement and other materials which make it a better product than wood which withstands moisture.
We also installed new gutters and downspouts around the house to fix some water direction issues. The last step to make everything look great was the painting. It had been several years since it was done, so the customer just wanted everything to be redone and look fresh. They picked a great red color to go with white trim and it came out great. It really makes it look like a new house with the new roof and freshly painted house. The customer was pleased we could take care of all of his home improvement needs and has already referred us to a few of his friends.

What We Did
- Ice and Water shield
- Shingle Vent Ridge Vent
- Certainteed® Woodscapes 30 yr shingles
- Velux Skylights
This past customer of ours contacted us because they needed a roofer for their home in Cambridge, MA. We stripped 2 layers of this roof and examined the wood for any rot. Often times we find roof leaks that our customers don't even know about. After examining, we prepped the wood with Ice and Water shield to protect the roof from the elements. Then installed proper flashing and Roofers Select underlayment.
After properly prepping, we installed new CertainTeed ® Woodscape 30 year shingles in the color Pewterwood. Our roofers also replaced the downspouts on the gutters and installed 4 soffit vents on the front of the house and 3 on the back.
Here you can see our roofers installing new Velux skylights.

What We Did
- Removed all the existing roofing, flashings and backing paper
- Installed new roofing shingles, flashings and underlayment
- Replaced some rotted wood clapboards on the left side of the house, front of the house and the entire right side of the house
- Painted the whole exterior
This house was built in 1984 and it had a combination of different issues. The roof was the original roof, so it was about 24 years old and needed to be replaced. The customer will be selling the house within a few years, so they wanted it to be in good shape for the sale to get the most money for their property.
We replaced the existing roof with Certainteed Landmark® 30-year shingles, 6 feet of ice-and-water shield called Winterguard® by CertainTeed, 30 pound Roofer's Select® felt underlayment, and 8 inch flashing along all the edges.
The roof was completed quickly, but there was still more work to be done on the siding.
Carpentry was next on the checklist for this home improvement project. The customer loved that we had specialized craftsman for each project (roofer's who roof, carpenters who do carpentry, etc.). The right side of the house was the worst because of the sun, and it was in bad shape (see picture).
We took off all of the existing siding on the side and replaced it with primed James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding "smooth style" to match the rest of the house. James Hardie Fiber Cement siding holds up much better in the extreme weather than wood, so this was the perfect solution for this area of the house.
There was also other issues with the front door frame threshold (wood under the door), and some of the clapboards on the left side of the house. We replaced all the rot, so we were ready to paint.
Finally, we painted the exterior of the house for the finishing touch. We painted it with the same color scheme as it was before, but with the carpentry and new paint, everything looked great. The customer will be moving and said she will use us again in her new house for any of her home improvement needs.
At the end of the job the customer said "I was very pleased with the service and the quality of the job. The crew was very friendly and conscientious. In addition, they were responsive to new issues that popped up!"

What We Did
- Removed and Replaced all Exterior Cedar Siding and Aluminum Siding
- Removed 3 Tab Composite Roofing Shingles
- Installed new Architectural Certainteed Roofing Shingles
- Exterior Painting with Sherwin Williams Resilience Exterior Paint
This 200 year old building in Cambridge, Massachusetts was in need of some serious care. The building located in a historical district had been abused and mistreated over the years and lost its original historical integrity.
The owners wanted to bring the building back to its 1700's beauty and so did the historical commission of the neighborhood. As historical contracting specialists we were able to meet with historical commission and owners to provide a long lasting siding solution while at the same time maintaining the original historical integrity of the siding.
To start we removed the old aluminum siding and discovered older failing cedar siding. When the siding was removed it exposed failing sheathing and rotten wood that needed to be replaced. Plywood sheathing was installed and Tyvek HomeWrap® was applied to protect the house from moisture damage and wind.
Being local siding contractors, we were able to provide the perfect siding option which is resistant to rot and will hold exterior paint for up to 20 years or more. This siding is a fiber cement siding made by James Hardie company, called HardiePlank Siding.
Fibercement siding contractors, such as United Home Experts, are certified siding installers and we take extra care when installing it. Especially in a historical town like Cambridge, MA, the details mattered.
The goal was to achieve the original look while, at the same time, creating a low maintenance siding solution that looks like wood. To achieve this we also used Cellular PVC trim boards them used Sherwin Williams exterior paint to finish the building off. As experienced MA painters, the finish looks amazing.
We also replaced the existing 3-tab roofing material with architectural roof shingles by CertainTeed roofing based in Norwood MA. As certified Massachusetts SELECT Shingle Roofers®, we were able to offer a 20-year warranty on the roof. Most roofing contractors in MA will only give a 5-year warranty at best. The mansard roof took extra care to make sure the historical look was maintained.
In the end we were able turn a neglected and abused historical house into its original look using modern fiber cement siding, lifetime paint coatings, and long lasting roof. This historical Cambridge neighborhood was very happy with the transformation from old ugly aluminum siding to new freshly painted Hardie siding. They were especially impressed a local contracting company could do all aspects of the siding, roofing and painting.
