Wood Decking

Once the bark is taken off the tree the wood has no way of protecting itself.  The damaging effects of weather to unprotected wood can begin immediately.  Rain, melting snow and morning dew are quickly absorbed by unprotected wood causing it swell.  The sun's heat causes drying, which makes the wood shrink.  These cycles of wet and dry, swelling and shrinking, cause wood to warp, split and crack - all of which lead to shortened wood life and expensive repairs and replacement.  Having your deck cleaned and sealed can double the life of your deck.

Protective Finishes:

Unprotected wood deteriorates from exposure to sunlight and weather. This wood can change color, crack, buckle, dry out, or even split from these elements over time. Water sealers/ repellents alone don’t offer very much protection, often wearing away before the completion of 1 full season. We typically recommend the use of a penetrating oil or sealer, which should last 2 to 3 times as long as a water sealer (although horizontal surfaces tend to wear away more rapidly than vertical). There are dozens of semi-toned and amber-toned products on the market that appeal to many customers’ tastes.
